PPM Solution consolidates legacy knowledge, aligns with the delivery framework, and provides clear project progress tracking.

Introduction:

Channel Infrastructure NZ (CNZ) manages New Zealand’s largest fuel import terminal that stores and distributes fuel for its customers. The infrastructure projects supporting these services required a Project Portfolio Management (PPM) tool to coordinate multiple sub-portfolios and establish consistency in planning and progress tracking.
In November 2024, CNZ engaged myP3 to implement a tailored version of our myP3+ solution. The implementation followed a phased approach to support user adoption and deliver incremental improvements, rather than opting for a full-scale rollout from the outset. The solution is live and in use, with modules being enabled incrementally

The Problem:

CNZ had a mix of long-serving project management staff (10+ years) and newly appointed team members. An updated, organisation-wide project delivery framework had been developed to bring consistency across all departments and there was a need to consolidate and retain legacy knowledge while also aligning it with the new framework and associated artefacts.

The Goal:

CNZ objective was to implement a practical and fit-for-purpose PPM solution that consolidates historical project knowledge, embeds the updated delivery framework, and promotes consistent project delivery. The solution will also provide centralised document management, enhance visibility through reporting, improve cost control, and support informed, data-driven decision-making.

The Solution:

CNZ made the decision to implement myP3+ based on the following key benefits:

  • Automated document generation from entered data, tailored to CNZ’s formats and required content.
  • Integration of CNZ’s project delivery stages and decision gate checklists, providing greater transparency into project progress and compliance.
  • In-system process guidance during data entry, customised with CNZ-specific information and examples to support user adoption.
  • A standardised schedule template with cost management capabilities, including storage of approved budgets at different project stages, forecasting, and integration of actual costs from the finance system.
  • Integration with Microsoft Teams to enhance team collaboration and streamline communication.

  2. Clearer tracking of project progress by structured and consistent stages and checklists.
  3. Faster user induction and adoption supported by built-in, easy-to-follow guidance.

Current Status:

Our solution continues to be phased into use to incrementally deliver value for CNZ.
